OTC Motorcycle Lift vs Sears Craftsman Jack

by Samuel Miller

For people in the market for a motorcycle lift, their choice usually comes down to the OTC 1545 motorcycle lift or the Sears Motorcycle jack. They are easily most popular choices on the market. There´s a few reasons I chose to review the OTC 1545 motorycle lift and not the jack from Sears.

The sears jack receives a 2.5 customer feedback rating. Compared to 4.5 stars on the OTC lift, this is a very big red flag. The comments on the sears website are full of glaring problems with the Sears Motorcycle jack. It has great reviews on its stability and ease of use, but repeatedly gets labeled as junk. It is a common problem for the seal to blow out. This is a sign of sub-par quality parts. After minimal use customers experienced oil leaking from the hydraulics.

Manufacturing of the product and parts stopped a few years ago, so requests for parts have been met with suggestions to just buy a new unit for $120. One customer bought the Sears Craftsmen jack, and asked if it was compatible with Harley Davidsons. He was told it was, but it turns out it did not have enough clearance to get the jack under the motorcycle. You´re wrong if you think they took the product back.

The price tage is lower than the OTC 1545, but the quality is despicable and you shouldn´t expect to be impressed by the unit. The OTC lift does use a similar design, but based on the 4.5 star feedback rating, it actually performs to standard. This is a byproduct of making a quality product with quality parts from a niche specific company, and not a big-name manufacturer making an ok product for an ok price. Customers have used V-Rod motorcycles with this jack and have not experienced any problems. The rear locking casters and also handy for keeping large, heavy motorcycles stable for maintainence work. It´s also pretty handy as a dolly around the garage.

It still does amaze me that Sears seems to be moving a large number of these units, and I urge you to check out my OTC 1545 motorcycle lift review, or head straight to Amazon, to check out comments from real customers yourself. As far as I can tell right now, they are offering the best deal for the OTC jack, coming in around $150. Not a bad deal when you consider it includes free shipping to your door.
